I met up with Kim and Michael during the ‘scorcher’ that was last weekend. Nervous at first, Kim and Michael soon relaxed and we managed to get some great shots in the relatively early morning light (always better for the photographer than the ‘harsh’ light that comes with a summer midday) The whole session was great fun and flew by in no time at all. I am really looking forward meeting up with them again for their big day at Losehill House Hotel, Derbyshire. Here are a few favourites from the shoot
I met up with Richard and Natalie last week for their pre-wedding shoot. Very keen nature lovers they asked if they could take some shots in the garden near their lovely countryside home, where Richard proposed. I was happy to oblige before dashing up to Hedingham Castle with them, which is where they are going to be married. Everything is so fantastically green and lush at the moment, providing a great backdrop for the shots and really reflecting Richard and Natalie’s love of nature.
It was like being with old friends for Louise and Damian’s wedding – I photographed the wedding of their best man George almost two years ago and photographed George’s brother last year so it was great to meet up with so many familiar faces and feel so welcomed.
A very elegant and composed Louise was walked down the aisle by her mum who was just fantastic despite no doubt feeling the nerves of such an important task. I found out that it had been Louise’s childhood dream to have her wedding celebrations at Great Fosters and on what was an absolute scorcher of a day that dream came true.
Everyone participated in the day so much – including sending up a great cheer when yours truly got a ‘cool off’ from the ground sprinklers at Great Fosters just as I was about to take a shot! Fantastic day, fantastic couple, what more can I say but to thank everyone for making it such a great day
It was almost like being on the set of a wartime film – bunting; vintage cars; home made cakes vintage china and a spitfire aircraft complete with pilot all set to a backdrop of vintage sounds from singer Lola Lamour. The very English weather (the torrential rain) did nothing to dampen spirits and everyone had a great time at this very vintage village wedding! Here are a few of my favourite shots from the day
Last winter I photographed the apartments in St Marks Church Florence and I am please to say that the new website with those images is now live. I am always grateful for the privileged access that I have had to photograph the church – Let’s face it how often do you get so close to original Pre-Raphaelite art and architectural splendour dating back to the Medici era? Can’t wait to photograph the church when it has its new lighting………..
What does it take to have a successful portrait session? I would say it’s a combination of the skill of the photographer in capturing the personality of the people involved, the attitude of the people involved and to a certain extent the weather when you are on location! Happily, that combination came together nicely when I photographed Sam and her family recently. Nervous at first they were amazed at what could be achieved in such an ordinary location with minimal direction. Sam loved the images enthusing ‘you were absolutely fantastic, and with such a big group of us, you did an amazing job!’
Who would have thought it was spring? The dark clouds rolled and the rain came down and it can’t have been much more than 10 degrees in the temperature stakes. Such days are when I get to use my skills as a photographer to their maximum seeking opportunities to use the weather to our advantage – capturing the atmosphere and telling the story of the day through every image. A good day that I think really captured the nerves, excitement and happiness of Sheena and Ian’s wedding.
A pre wedding shoot is always a good opportunity to get couples used to being in front of a camera. My documentary style of photography has minimal direction and few formal shots but it is still important that couples feel at ease with me and the camera. I don’t ‘pose’ people but I do give advice on how to achieve a more natural ‘look’ for the formal shots, for example bride and groom outside the church and for the more informal, intimate shots of the bride and groom during their day. After about twenty minutes I normally get a sense that the couple have got the hang of it all and that was certainly the case with Megan and David – I look forward to shooting their wedding at Brampton Church later on this summer
Orton House Hotel is a beautiful place just outside Peterborough and where Leanne and Peter held their wedding on a beautiful warm spring day. Here are a few favourites from their celebrations
Easter arrived in a blast of freezing wind from the North but it did not deter Sarah and Glenn from having a great day! Sarah looked a picture of elegance and Tattersalls venue was a great backdrop for their wedding photography. We wish them well and look forward to seeing them soon!
