New for 2012: Exclusive invitation to Florence Italy
For two very special weeks this Summer I will be resident in Florence, Italy photographing a select number of pre-wedding and engagement couples against the stunning backdrop of this spectacular renaissance city and the beautiful surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Our first week in June gives clients the chance to see Florence and the surrounding Tuscan countryside at one of the best times of the year – it’s usually not too hot, the light is great and the humidity hasn’t quite got a grip at that time of year. During our second week in September it is still warm although perhaps not as warm as June, but there is so much going on inFlorence then and it is a great time for on location shoots
During these weeks we work with one couple per day. The shoot normally concentrates on key areas around Florence. For more inspiration see Adam and Nicola’s winter pre-wedding photography shoot. Lunch is included and where possible we try to take advantage of the early morning and early evening light (and lack of crowds!). As standard a day during one of our pre-wedding photography shoot weeks includes:
- One day on location shooting with one photographer and assistant
- The images from your day uploaded to a secure web gallery for viewing
- The images from your day in digital high resolution format
- A selection of 40 images from your day presented in a beautifully designed album
- Lunch on the day of the shoot

Pre-Wedding Photography
When a couple gets engaged they have so many things to consider, not least of which is choosing a great wedding photographer that is right for their individual style and wedding. Once booked however, most couples forget about their wedding photographer until a few weeks prior to their wedding day, when they are likely to meet with them again to go over the details of the day. From my point of view, I feel I can deliver a better wedding photography experience if we’ve had a chance to get to know each other better.
As part of the service to booked wedding clients we offer a complimentary pre-wedding photography shoot (normally within the UK).
As a documentary wedding photographer I aim to tell the story of the day in images that are candid and capture the moments as they happen. Unlike more formal styles of photography I will only give direction where needed but there will be some times during the wedding day where you want a little more direction, for example photos with parents and grand parents. Since posing doesn’t come natural to most people, and as we generally have more time than on the actual wedding day, the pre-wedding photography shoot is a great opportunity to practice! I guide couples and give them some basic rules to help them look comfortable, spontaneous and of course romantic – to look as good as they really are; with a few simple pointers here and there which can make a world of difference to the end result.
The whole pre-wedding photography experience may feel awkward initially, but there is no pressure and pretty soon the fun and spontaneity of having a rare moment together before the wedding soon takes over. At the end of the session both the bride and groom are usually totally at ease about the photography on their wedding day and I have got a unique insight into how they interact and the type of images that the bride and groom really love.
To get the absolute best from a pre-wedding photography shoot I encourage couples to go to a little bit of effort when planning their time with me. Doing things a little bit different in terms of outfits and location will ensure you have a gorgeous pre-wedding photography shoot. In the UK you can choose to have your pre-wedding photography shoot at a favourite spot, the beach, the city or even your wedding venue!
Finally, when your pre-wedding photography shoot is completed your images will be finished using my own processing technique to provide you with a set of timeless beautiful portraits that will be uploaded to a secure website gallery for you to view and purchase if you wish.
Destination Pre-Wedding Photography
In addition to the complementary pre-wedding shoots that are offered to wedding clients in the UK I also offer destination pre-wedding photography.
Destination Pre-Wedding Photography is increasingly popular and we now regularly work with pre-wedding clients throughout Europe. Pre-wedding photography in Paris, Florence and Venice are perennially popular with our clients, with Florence a particular favourite of mine, although one of my dreams would be to photograph in Hong Kong or Singapore – places that formed part of my childhood and that I would love to revisit as a professional wedding photographer
Destination Pre-Wedding Photography really is very special. Essentially it is a location portrait photo shoot (sometimes also referred to as an engagement shoot) where we will work with you to capture beautiful intimate moments in exquisite locations. Working predominantly with available light and using fantastic architecture and landscapes as the backdrop the focus will be on fun, spontaneity and romance.
Whether it is for one day or several days as part of a European tour (some clients opt for multiple locations in one country or several countries) our philosophy is to provide a personal and luxurious pre-wedding photography experience that reflects your individual style and personality
Our bespoke service doesn’t end with the completion of the pre-wedding photography shoot. Your images will be finished using my own processing technique and for destination pre-wedding photography clients these will be presented to you as high resolution digital images with a selection of your favourite images presented in a story book personally designed by Scott-Wood Photography. When everything is completed your pre-wedding photography images will also be uploaded to a secure website gallery for you to view.
The romantic autumn pre-wedding photography shoot in Paris is a great example of a destination shoot. The couple brought their own outfits with them but had assistance when it came to make up and hair – great make up and styling can really add the glamour of a city shoot! I would encourage you to think about the look you want to achieve – is it natural and casual or is it polished glamour or perhaps you have a theme in mind. Many of our clients from the Far East have part of the shoot done wearing wedding outfits as the pre-wedding photography shoot is just as important as the actual day. Whatever your choice it is important to be comfortable on the day…..
